postal letter balance | This postal balance was made by Philipp Jakob Maul from Hamburg in Germany. On the base plate is the beautiful brand plate of Ph.J. maul. On the balance arm is the M logo with the abbreviation D.R.G.M. In the catalog of Ph.J. Maul states that the balance is verifiable and is used, among other things, at German post offices. The balance shown here has calibration marks of the years 1955, 1956 and 1957. The banderole of a calibration office is also stamped in it. On the band itself are the letters DR (short for Deutsches Reich). Above it is 7, and below it is 2A. Which calibration office it concerns exactly is going too far here. The balance arm states that the scale is suitable for use up to a maximum of 2 kilograms. A set of weights had to be purchased separately. The balance has knife edge bearings. The green painted parts are made of magnetic steel. The balance arm is made of brass. The upright of the balance is a maximum of 39 cm high. The base plate measures 31 x 11.5 cm. The plate sizes are 13.5 x 13.0 cm. | back of the scale |
