Salter No. 11A letter scale for airmail

This letter scale is specially designed for airmail. The scale was made by George Salter & Co. Ltd., West Bromwich, in Staffordshire, England. It's the Salter No. 11A. The design is largely similar to the Salter No. 11, this airmail scale is more sensitive, and the scale body always has its own color blue. This airmail scale was available in two versions. In ounces, subdivided up to 8 ounces per dram (= 223.8 grams per 1.77 grams subdivided) and in grams, subdivided up to 250 grams per 2 grams. The Air Mail Letter Balance No. 11A can be found in Salter catalogs and price lists from the years 1951 to 1961.
The scale height is 18.7 cm, the foot sizes 10.5 x 9.3 cm. The diameter of the letter tray is 10.3 cm. The diameter of the white dial is 9.0 cm. A paper with the airmail rate can be applied to the top surface of the letter tray. This copy was supplied by the company H.O. Jones Limited of Wolverhampton, this was presumably a dealer of Salter.
