This small letter scale is made by Jakob Maul. The present modern MAUL-logo is put on the front and also molded at the bottom of the scale. The scale is legally protected (in German: Gesetzlich Geschützt) and has the registration number 1019528. I don't know at which organization this is done. The same design is on the market with the mark Herlitz. It's available in several colors: black, red, brown and broken white. The range of this scale is 250 grams. With the same geometric dimensions a 500 grams version exists. The scale has a simple leveling means: The transparant with the values is easily shiftable up or down, at the left side of the transparant. The chart shows a division stripe per 5 grams at the left. At the right side the values corresponding with the postal rate values are set: 0, 20, 50, 100 and 250 grams.

interdit à l'usage commercial (French, meaning: forbidden to be used in trade)
          scale not legal for trade
niet voor handelsdoeleinden (Dutch, meaning: not to be used in trade)

This design is protected by an American Design patent given to Jakob Maul GmbH. The inventor is Gerhard Gohl. The patent is D288,672. It was granted March 10, 1987 for a period of 14 years. The design was legally protected in 7 figures. Below some more photos of this letter scale.
