Futura letter scale Jakob Maul | This letter scale with a sleek design was made by Jakob Maul, Bad-König-Zell, Germany. That company now has a shorter company name: MAUL. The scale has the model name Futura. The model was available in the color combinations black/green, black/grey, chrome/brown and chrome/black, see catalog images. The Futura was available from 1980 through 1988. The measurements scale of this copy deviates somewhat from those shown in the catalogue. Up to 60 grams this specimen has a stripe per five grams, above that up to 250 grams there is a stripe per ten grams. In the catalog the change is at 80 grams and several scales have a division per two grams on the scale. On top of the letter platform is a hinged hatch with a dimple in which an egg fits. Under that hatch is an extremely difficult to operate rotary knob for the zero adjustment of the letter scale. Appearance was apparently decisive. The scale house and letter platform are made of plastic, the scale mechanism is made of metal. The scale is 12.7 centimeters wide and 4.7 cm deep. The scale is 13.9 cm high. The bottom is covered with a layer of foam rubber. | back of the Futura |
