TRIATAX scale

The TRIATAX is a stalwart letter and parcel scale made by Jakob Maul. It is a modern version and successor of an older scale design, dated November 1937. This design was granted a German patent with number 653333, with the title: Neigungswaage für Briefe und kleinere Lasten. This Triatax is more extensive and more complex than the pre-war predecessor. The predecessor had two ranges of weighing. A low range and a high range in this case the arms of the pendulums are coupled with a carrier at the lighter arm. The Triatax has three ranges of weighing, The third range is realized by applying a turn-over counter weight. The modern logo of MAUL is molded into the back of the cast iron base. At the black horizontal girder is the legally orientated Dutch text:    NIET VOOR HANDELSDOELEINDEN    and under-

neath in the French language -without punctuations- NON VERIFIE PAR L'ETAT. These texts indicate this letter scale was intended to be exported. Strangely, the leaflet is written in German only. The 100 grams scale has graduation stripes per each half gram. At the upper edge each ten grams area is divided into two by a black and white tape. At the 600 grams scale a division stripe per five grams is given. Each area of twenty grams is divided into two by a red and wide tape at the lower edge of this chart. The 2000 grams scale has division stripes per ten grams. The lower edge is accentuated per 100 grams with alternated black and white. The chart is made of a flat aluminum strip. The plate is also of aluminum. The mechanism is nickel plated. The leaflet shows the order number, -Bestell-Nr. 12620- and old number -alte Nr. 623/2. The scale was delivered in a polystyrene bottom with a simple white cardboard cover. At the side a little sticker is attached showing the number, the article number and the figure 90. Probably this was the production year. The height of the scale is 36 cm. Below some more photos of this scale.
