Pondo kitchen scale, supplier Carl Schöning | This large scale is a kitchen scale probably made by Carl Schöning GmbH Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießerei, from Berlin, Germany. Schöning himself also wrote the name as Schoening. The scale has two ranges, the weighing range to be used is selected by placing or not placing the supplied loose counterweight. Without the loose counterweight, the measuring scale from 0 to 3 kilos is used, this scale is subdivided per 20 grams. With the loose counterweight mounted, the measuring scale from 3 kilos to 10 kilos is used, this scale has a stripe per 50 grams. The scales each have their own indicating pointer point. The dish for the weighing material is detachable from the dish holder. The mechanism has hardened steel knife edge supports on the main pivot point. A wide spring steel tension strap holds the main knife edge bearing in position and prevents lateral movements and therefore disturbing friction. This scale is based on the German patent DE398605 of March 3, 1923. It is registered to Otto Schmidt from Berlin-Tegel and was published on July 18, 1924. There are some visible differences, in the patent there is one counterweight that can be placed in two positions on the counterweight arm. The scale shown here has one fixed position for the counterweight to which a separate second counterweight can be attached. The scale base has a double design so that the adjusting screw does not press on the surface and at the same time a storage place is created for the loose counterweight. The scale has a handy separate dish, the patent model has a fixed platter. The model bears the name Pondo. The scale itself weighs 4080 grams. The scale height is 34 centimeters, the width of the measuring scale is 25.5 cm, the scale base is 22 x 12 cm, and the dish diameter is 22 cm. | back of the Pondo kitchen scale |
