DISK © letter scale | This letter scale is an invention of Ernst E. Esch from Wuppertal, Germany. Ideee Design GmbH is the assignee of the European patent, with the number EP 0056168, made public in July 1982. The name of this design is molded at the back: DISK Briefwaage. Almost the complete scale is made of plastics. Only the little spring of the letter clip is made of steel. The patent figures also show that above 50 grams the owner's finger looks to be in a guillotine hole. Luckily the edges aren't sharp. The range is 100 grams. The weight limits of the postal rates are clearly indicated at this scale. A few intermediate values are marked by a single dot: 30, 40, 60, 70, 80, and 90 grams. The patent figure doesn't show these dots. Below some more photos of this good-looking letter scale. | figure 3 of the patent |
