This scale was intended for use in laboratories, both in companies and schools. It has an oil damper in the vertical stand. The damper ensures a quick stop of the pointer. The scale was included in Griffin & Tatlock Ltd's catalog in 1952. In 1954, this company merged with W. and J. George and Becker Ltd and continued as Griffin & George Ltd. In 1972, A. Gallenkamp & Co. Ltd. acquired Griffin & George Ltd. After several other acquisitions, the company Griffin & George Ltd. was closed down in 1999.
On May 22, 1950, a patent application for the design was filed by the Scottish company John Jamieson (Glasgow) Limited. John Hastings Jamieson is listed as the inventor. A British patent, number 697,961, was finally granted on October 7, 1953.
This scale model was available with a range of 250 grams per gram and also with a range of 500 grams per 2 grams, with an accuracy of 0.5 or 1.0 gram respectively by interpolation.
The scale is 37 centimeters high, 38.5 cm wide, and 13.5 cm deep. The scale itself weighs 3623 grams, without the oil in the damper.
