![]() letter balance, letter scale | This letter balance bears no name or logo. The balance has a simple round platform for the weights; unlike most other letter balances, this platform has no raised edge. The oval platform for the letters is typical for French letter scales. The shape of the three weights resembles English weights. The weights are 10, 30, and 50 gram. French weights would bear the inscription grammes. The vertical uprights beneath the platforms have a full circle around the horizontal axes. Only the knife-edge axes of the main pivot rest on a steel bushing. The axles of the platforms rest directly on the brass. Both stationary frame parts are each secured to the wooden base in two places. With other balances, there is usually only one attachment. Four donut-shaped wooden feet are attached to the bottom. The bottom is covered with a piece of jute. The fastenings of the stationary frame parts are concealed in this way. Below are some more images of this unbranded but nonetheless interesting letter balance. | ![]() back of the letter balance |
