letter scale | This is a chromed version of the Columbus Bilateral. Earlier in this survey of my collection is a brass Columbus Bilateral, see the older brass version. The range of this specimen is somewhat lower, namely 0 till 30 grams and 20 till 100 grams. Both scales have a stripe per gram. The COLUMBUS BILATERAL of Ph. J. Maul seems to be described in the Deutsches Reich Patentschrift with DRP number 167192. It was granted by the Kaiserliches Patentamt and the patentee is named as AUTOMAT Aktien-Gesellschaft in Berlin. It was patented starting September 16, 1904. The patent was published January 30, 1906. A figure of the patent is presented at the brass specimen. Even a more lighter version of the Columbus Bilateral exist with a maximum value of 60 grams. | rear of the scale |
