Liberty 1 letter scale

The Liberty 1 is still in a catalog of Triner of the year 1963. The postal rates at this scale, 3c for a letter, were valid from 1932 till 1958. The airmail rate of 6c was valid from 1934 till 1944 but also from 1949 till 1955. Therefore this scale dates from the period 1934-1955. Knowledge of the other categories of postal rates possibly could narrow down the period even further. The range is 16 ounces, subdivided per half ounce. The layout of design of this letter scale is similat to other models of Triner, like the Reliance, GEM, Ideal and Superior. The characteristics of the Liberty 1 is the protective cover at the spring zone and the fancy round plate. More recent specimens are lacquered in a mixed spotted colour. It's odd Triner gave the name Liberty to another scale, look at the Liberty scale. That model was named the Liberty 2 at a photo.

On top of that, Triner has another Liberty, the Liberty number 20, in their 1963 catalog. That model strongly resembles the Triner Precision. Below some more photos of this letter scale.
