letter scale | This letter scale with it's ranges of 50 and 250 grams is the lightest version of a series. The model was available in five combined ranges: 50g / 250g; 60g / 350g; 100g / 500g; 250g / 1000g; and 500g /2000g. The plate was available in different models: round and flat, round with a lowering (as shown here the W-shape), a modest saucer, a tall bowl or pan, et cetera. At the chart one reads Grm., this is short for Gram. The frame with a pattern of fish-scales is made of cast iron. The letter scale has a turn-over counterweight and a fixed stagnant enameled chart. With the counterweight in the lower position the 250 grams chart is in use. With the counterweight in the upper position the 50 grams chart is in use. The letter scale has a zero leveling screw. The chart is enamel. This letter scale is pictured in several old catalogs of different! firms. The chart of 50 grams shows a stripe per gram. The 250 grams chart is divided per five grams. Ordering of several different versions was possible: brass nickel-plated, brass pickled, black lacquered or finest quality nickel-plated. |
Distinguishing is the curl in the vertical standard of the cast-iron frame. Earlier two larger versions were presented: old tall letter scale with curl and the tall curl letter scale with pan. Below some more photos of this tall letter scale.
