letter scale

This letter scale has a very light-weight frame made of folded tin. This frame was also applied at another scale with a brass mechanism, look at concav. The mechanism shown here is made of chromed tin. Before a 100 grams version was presented, see little concav. Also a 250 grams-version with a letter plate (in W-shape) was presented earlier, see light-weight concav. The chrome layer often gets a pitted corrosion. The chart of 250 grams shows a stripe per five grams. The addition of figures is limited to decimals. The surface of the chart is used cleverly with rising stripes of measures. This is repeated in each area of fifty grams. The mechanism has the stamped text: "voor huishoudelijk gebruik". This is Dutch meaning: for domestic use. Also stamped in the mechanism is the logo of Philipp Jakob Maul. The chart has the concav mark. A concav positioned chart is made better readable thanks to the form slightly bent out of the plane of movement of the scale. Below some more pictures of this scale with the aluminum bowl.
