letter scale | Although the well-known M-logo is not on this letter scale, Ph.J. Maul still is most probably the manufacturer. The name columbus is at the cast iron base. Earlier a couple of other letter scales with a similar base were presented. Look at the brass columbus bilateral and the chromed columbus bilateral. Those scales do have the M-logo. This letter scale has a matt silver colored layer. This layer is corroded at several place, or even is disappeared totally. The lower chart ranges from 0 till 30 grams and has a stripe of measure per each gram. The upper chart ranges from 20 till 100 grams. This chart also shows a stripe per gram. On this upper chart is engraved: D.R.P., this is the abbreviation of Deutsches Reich Patent. Meaning: German Empire Patent. More information and a drawing from the patent can be found at the brass columbus. Below some more pictures of this letter scale. | back of the scale |
