jubilee letter scale | It's easy to fix a date on this letter scale: At the occasion of fifty years of existence of A.S. this special specimen was made in 1931. I don't know where or with what this firm was active. Also I don't know whether or not more copies of this letter scale do exist. More models of the rictus with names of firms or products on it are known to exist. The closed design is very well suited for this. For instance a blue scale exist with the text: DE FAAM, BREDA. This is a Dutch firm making candy. Also an advertising rictus for a German construction company exists. | rear view of letter scale |

The housing of the scale is covered with a thin silver colored coating. By wear, at some places the underlying brass appears again. The letter scale is fixated at the black stone? base plate by means of three little bolts and nuts. The three holes appear to be made by an amateur. The chart of 250 grams has a division stripe for every gram up to 50 grams. Above 50 grams a stripe per each five grams is given. On this rictus, the name rictus is not presented. But at the back D.R.P. 384478 is engraved. Also, the mark of Philipp Jakob Maul is put there. On other models of the rictus this mark isn't set. On a recently purchased small version of the rictus is, very odd, the mark of Jakob Maul. Below some more detailed photos of this letter scale.
