POSTALETT letter scale | The POSTALETT is a letter scale in the shape of a pen. This scale was delivered with a little textile case and an information leaflet. On the leaflet are the directions for use, the valid postal rates, an enumeration of the benefits of this unique scale and a distinct sketch. The range is 8 ounces. An US patent with number 2,009,363 was granted on July 23, 1935 to William A. Scheurer of The Exact Weight Scale Company, Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. At an earlier presented Postalett web page are the figures of the patent and more pictures of the leaflet. Some months later, on September 9 1936, a British patent with the number 453,328 was granted also. The scale can be adjusted by rotating a knob which can be reached after removal of the black knob. The name of this pen size letter |
scale is presented on the black knob and on the leaflet. The leaflet shows a postal rate for domestic letters of 3 cents per oz. This was valid in the period 1932-1958. The Air Mail rate of 6 cents was valid in the period 1934-1944, but also again in the period 1949-1955. This scale dates from the period 1935-1955. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
