POSTALETT scale | The POSTALETT is a pen size letter scale. Unfortunately the cover cap of my specimen is missing. Also, in places small particles of the plastic are broken and repaired by bonding. This pen scale was supplied in a cardboard packing, complete with a folded information leaflet. On the leaflet are the directions for use, the valid postal rates, an enumeration of the benefits of this unique scale and a distinct sketch. The range is 8 ounces. An US patent with number 2,009,363 is granted on July 23, 1935 to William A. Scheurer of The Exact Weight Scale Compagny, Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. The figures show a clumsy letter clip. The figure shows a range of 6 oz. Some months later, on September 9 1936, a British patent with the number 453,328 was granted also. The scale can be adjusted by rotating a knob which can be reached after removal of the white knob. The name of this scale is presented on the white knob, on the packing and on the leaflet. | US-patent no. 2,009,363 |

Often, the scales have a commercial text printed on the side. More combinations of colors exist: black and white; red with cream; black and dark green; black and dark red. Also, more round and smooth Postalett scales models exist, these scales even more strongly look like a fountain-pen. This design also exist in more colors: ivory-cream, green and black. The domestic rate 3 cents per oz. was valid in 1932-1958. The Air Mail rate of 6 cents was valid in 1934-1944, but also again in 1949-1955. So, this scale dates from the period 1935-1955. Below some more photos of the Postalett letter scale.
