SAV-A-STAMP scale | This SAV-A-STAMP letter scale weighs up to 4 ounces. It's the successor of the SAV-A-STAMP by Thorne-Foster Inc. and of the SAV-A-STAMP made by A. Browne Co. The postal rates are at the frontal side of the scale. The back surface is kept totally bare. This bright yellow scale does not have a mark, but does show the US patent number 2,060,064. That patent was granted to John C. Fryer on November 10 1936. The application was made already on April 14 1933. In the original design a long edge could be used as a 4 inch ruler. The text of the patent mentions a third function of the design: a paper weight. The postal rate of 3c for letters was valid during the period 1932-1958, the 6c for airmail during 1934-1944. But also in the period 1949-1955. With certainty this scale dates from the period 1934-1955. | the name at the scale |
