Scala letter scale, maker J. Maul
counterweight in
upper position

This letter scale is of more recent date. The frame is completely made of plastic. The mechanism still is made of tin. A loose metal insert is placed in the frame as a passage bolt for the zero leveling screw. Only the head of this screw is of plastic. The black foot of the scale is attached to the frame by means of a metal ring and ditto screw. The letter scale is available in different color combinations. The counterweight is switchable into two positions. In the lower position the range of 500 grams is used. In the upper position, the other range of 80 grams is to be used. The numerals at the chart are positioned horizontally. The realized direction of reading the chart is logical: from left to right. A version with lower ranges of 60 and 250 grams exists also.
