letter scale | The name Novitus of this little model is very clearly on the enemaled scale. The mark of Ph.J. Maul is in double lines on the front of the frame. The text on the bar to the counterweight reads: niet voor handelsdoeleinden. (Dutch for: Not legal for trade). This model strongly resembles the Excelsior, also made by Ph.J. Maul. The counterweight is fixed. The range is 100 grams. Each gram has a division stripe. There is some varation in height with the numerals of the chart. At each decade, the simple stripe is replaced by a diamond figure. A chequered band supports the readability of the scale. The letter scale has a zero leveling screw.
