the ballpoint pen-letter scale in its box with leaflet
This ballpoint pen has a built-in letter scale. The scale came in a box complete with a leaflet with a brief user guide and the then current US postal rates. The weighing range of more than three ounces is subdivided per ounce. According to the leaflet a patent is pending, PAT.PEND. in other words, there would be a patent pending. Earlier this letter scale was shown on the website at the bottom of the page specials. The printed First Class postage rates were valid in the USA in the period August 1, 1958 to January 7, 1963. I have not found the period of validity of the Air Mail rates. On the clip of the pen are stylized the letters U, S and A.
