scale with fixed plate | This little scale was made by Hamilton Specialties Inc., Randolph, Massachusetts, USA. This is certainly not a real american postal scale, because there are no postal rates given at the chart. On top of that, the unit of measurement is odd to the States: grams in stead of ounces. The saucer-shaped plate indicates the weighing of powders or herbs. It is a fragile scale constructed of thin tin. It's partly chromed, partly laquered. The chart is made of a plastic foil. The bottom of the base is filled with cardboard with a felt contact layer at the bottom. The values at the chart grow from right to left. Because of the symmetrical shape, it is a goodlooking scale. | rear- and side-view |

Hamilton Specialties Inc. did manufacture specific postal scales. On them even the text is added: Hamilton postal scale (or scales), sometimes with a separate model number, for instance No. 16. On some types the postal rates are given next to the weight at the chart. Sometimes the chart is changeable. Of some of these scales, the base is kept very, very simple. Below, some examples are given.
