letter scale from France | This letter scale is from France. In a catalog from the period 1920/1930 of Allain, from Elbeuf-sur-Seine in France, this letter scale is shown and described. On the bottom of its wooden base the specimen photographed has a tab of this company Allain bearing the article number 2392. The number also appears in the catalog. This is a nickel-plated brass letter scale, has an engraved dial with a pointer, a lacquered wooden base and a leveling screw. At the bottom of this web page the information from said catalog is shown.
There are two versions: the 100 grams and the 200 grams. This is the 200 grams version.
Up to 20 grams there is a stripe of measure per five grams, above 20 grams the chart is subdivided per ten grams. Here the leveling screw is placed directly in the wood of the base. Other letter scales of this so called Manometer model have a separate metal part which protrudes from the base for holding the leveling screw, as is shown at the previously presented brass letter scale from France. | rear of the scale |
