letter scale | This letter scale came from Germany. At the bottom is partly readable a name "ORIVIT" and a number 27 24 A. From 1894-1905 Orivit AG was a German metal foundry, who made pewter products with their own alloy of pewter, antimony, copper and silver or white metal. Well polished it looks like silver. In 1905 the company was taken over by WMF. Until 1914, WMF still made products bearing the name ORIVIT. (More information on this website). The letter scale part is old and is applied more, see for example the WMF letter scale. The scale weighs up to 50 grammes. Grammes is French for grams plural. The scale has only a stripe of measure per gram between 10 and 20 grammes. Below and above this there are stripes perr five grammes. The special part of this letter scale is the base with flowers. The four portions each have a slightly different flower pattern. Three parts with three and one part with four little flowers. I don't know what exactly the glossy finish is. The top layer of the chart is partly faded and you can see the brass again. | back of the scale |
