GRAMM letter scale, Germany

This chrome colored letter scale with a mechanism hidden in the metal housing was made for the German market. GRAMM is stated at the scale. The weighing range of 100 grams has stripes of measure per five grams, alternating short and long stripes. On top of the housing near the back is an screw knob to adjust the spring of the mechanism tighter or slacker. This allows the letter balance could well be set to zero. The mechanism is very similar to the repeatedly presented original design of Gilfillan from 1896, see, for example, the Crescent letter scale or the Rowenta.
At the bottom of this page is a gold colored specimen of this letter scale that was intended for the English market. It has a weighing range of eight ounces. This model therefore has a stronger spring because eight ounces is almost equal to 227 grams. The scale has, or better had, marks per half an ounce. The scale values are almost completely worn away from this specimen. I don't know whether or not both of these letter scales were originally equipped with a felt-cardboard underneath the housing to prevent scratching.
Below are some more images of the postal scales.
