Weintraud letter scale | This letter scale was made by Weintraud & Co. G.m.b.H., from Offenbach in Germany. It is a special letter scale. The scale house has an American look. In America there is always a tension spring built in. Here this spring is omitted and the more European solution is applied: a counterweight on a lever. The letter scale has two weighing ranges. At the right from zero up to 110 grams. At the left from 110 up to 260 grams. Both scales are subdivided per five grams. The left scale is used by taking the second counterweight from the back of the scale house and connect it upon the fixed counterweight. This letter scale was patented on April 7, 1936 in Germany under patent number DE677633. Moreover, it was granted a British patent with number GB463225 by March 24, 1937. The loose second counterweight photographed and presented here is not original, but was made quickly in order to complete the whole. Loose removable additional weights disappear more often. | back of the scale |
