Rowenta letter scale with stamp box and sponge | This letter scale with a capacity up to 500 grams is mounted on a black glass plate together with a stamp box with four compartments. In between there is a round brass container with a sponge to wet the postal stamps. The dial of the scale has a stripe of measure per five grams. The mechanism has a rack moving a gear on the pointer spindle. The mechanism has two tensile springs. The pointer can be adjusted to zero with the turning knob at the side of the scale housing. At the bottom of the back is the brand name Rowenta in very small capitals. This brand name exists since 1913. The name ROWENTA is an acronym of the founders name RObert WEiNTrA. See for example here for another letter scale of Weintraud. In the journal of the German collectors Maß & Gewicht, No.102, juni 2012, at pp.2559-2560 there is an article: Briefwaagen von ROWENTA? written by Rudolf Wantoch. He dates the production of Rowenta scales to the period 1925-1935. The lid of the stamp box has a glass window. The sponge is placed in a round brass container. | seen obliquely from behind |
