E. Widmann letter scale

This letter scale comes from France and was made by Ed. Widmann from Paris. According to a French source he worked in the period 1909 - 1931. His initials EW are on the scale. There is also DÉPOSÉ on the arm with the counterweight. This suggests a protection or registration. This graceful letter scale has a wooden base. The foot stands on two small solid metal cones and on one in height-adjustable leveling screw. The weighing range is 100 grams. The scale is subdivided per gram up to 30 grams. above 30 grams the subdivision is per five grams up to 60 grams. Above 60 grams, the subdivision is made per ten grams. The height of this letter scale is 155 millimeters. The rectangular wooden base has a beautiful inlaid brass strip. There are many variants of E.W.'s pèse-lettres: on wooden base: round, and rectangular, on a metal base, on an elegant cloisonne inlaid base in metal and also in wood, on ornamental stone, and so on. They are also available with a greater weighing range of up to 350 grams.
