extended Exaktus letter scale

Three mechanisms are mounted on the cast iron frame of this scale. At the front is a weighing mechanism with a turnover counterweight. The large horizontal letter plate belongs to this mechanism. At the back a second mechanism with a fixed counterweight is mounted. This uses a hanging letter tray. A third mechanism is placed at the left top corner of the frame. This is suitable to determine very precisely whether a letter weighs more or less than 20 grams. The scale shows the values between 19.5 and 20.5 grams with stripes of measure per 0.1 gram. This letter scale model has the name Exaktus. This often indicated with a sticker on the hanging letter tray or left on the horizontal beam of the cast iron frame. In the middle of the horizontal beam is the brand name Ph.J. Maul on a beautiful name shield. A sticker with the D.R.P. indication sometimes is at the right of this shield. With my copy both stickers are no longer present. Later copies have a simple, straightforward rectangular nameplate. The Exaktus letter scale was protected by a German patent on July 5, 1938. The patent with the number DE697676 was announced September 19, 1940 and published on October 19, 1940. It is granted to Philipp Friedrich Maul, the oldest son of Philipp Jakob Maul. An addition to this patent was made on October 7, 1938, with the number DE714931. This describes the third mechanism mounted on the left corner of the frame. This patent was announced November 20, 1941 and published on December 10, 1941.

The Exaktus is certainly not beautiful. The scale is made of aluminum and often partly scratched. It is unclear when the switch to the simple rectangular name plate was made. Whether this letter scale was still in production just before the Second World War is not known. The Exaktus, without the addition has already been shown, see the Exaktus, There are also the figures of the German patents that describe this letter scale with an addition.
Below are some images with details of this extended Exaktus letter scale.
