Oakes E-53 egg grader | This Oakes E-53 egg scale is made by The Oakes Mfg. Co., of Tipton, Indiana in the U.S.A.. The egg weight class 23 oz is stamped into the base plate. The base plate was originally painted red, this paint has partly disappeared. This Oakes was sold from 1933 to 1941. [Source: North American Egg Scales by Charley Amsbaugh]. This simple egg scale consists of three parts. The parts are made of rusting magnetic steel. This scale model was also available for 18, 19 and 22 oz. Those are the weights in ounces per dozen eggs. Converted, the 23 oz per dozen equates to an egg of 1.9167 ounces, which is 54.3 grams. An Oakes egg scale adjustable for more egg weight classes was previously shown on this website, see here. | the other side of the Oakes E-53 egg scale |
