![]() Cito kitchen scale, Carl Schöning | This large scale is a kitchen scale, probably made by Carl Schöning GmbH Maschinenfabrik und Eisengießerei, from Berlin, Germany. Schöning himself also spelled the name Schoening. The scale has two ranges. The included counterweight allows you to select the desired weighing range. Without the counterweight, the lower scale, from 0 to 3 kilos, is used, with graduations in 20-gram increments. With the counterweight, the scale, from 3 to 10 kilos, is used, with graduations in 50-gram increments. The scales each have their own indicating pointer point. The dish for the weighing material is detachable from the dish holder. The mechanism has hardened steel knife edge supports on the main pivot point. A wide spring steel tension strap holds the main knife edge bearing in position and prevents lateral movements and therefore disturbing friction. This scale is based on the German patent DE398605 of March 3, 1923. It is registered to Otto Schmidt from Berlin-Tegel and was published on July 18, 1924. There are some visible differences, in the patent there is one counterweight that can be placed in two positions on the counterweight arm. The scale shown here has one fixed position for the counterweight to which a separate second counterweight can be attached. The scale base has a double design so that the adjusting screw does not press on the surface and at the same time a storage place is created for the loose counterweight. The separate counterweight is stored in a drawer in the center of the scale base. The scale has a convenient separate dish, while the patented model has a fixed platter. This model bears the name Cito. A slightly different version from this supplier, called Pondo. In the last two photos at the bottom of this page, the Pondo is next to the Cito. | ![]() back of the Cito scale |
