![]() Louis Schopper fabric scale | This is an old travel or pocket scale for determining the weight of a square meter of textile fabric. The scale was made by Louis Schopper from Leipzig, Germany. It is depicted as number 73 in catalogs from 1908 and 1924. The weighing range of 600 grams per square meter applies when using test pieces made with the large pair of templates. When using the smaller pair of 5 x 5 cm templates, the measuring range is 1200 grams per square meter. The scale value to be read is then multiplied by two. The fabric scale is a scale with a somewhat larger measuring range than, for example, this paper scale. The leather-covered box measures 20.5 x 19.2 x 3.1 cm. What pocket could fit that in? The interior, with its rotating place holders, is beautifully finished. For extra protection, this fabric scale also has a separate protective cover (see the photo). The scale came with a height-adjustable stand. The scale came with a height-adjustable stand. One of the large templates serves as the base of the stand. | ![]() back of the fabric scale |
