model Rictus scale advertising Burnus | Originally, the Rictus (letter) scale was a model by Philipp Jakob Maul from Hamburg in Germany. Later this model was also made by Jakob Maul from Zell. The Rictus has already been shown on this website, see Rictus with brass saucer, jubilee Rictus, Jakob Maul Rictus and also the black Rictus. The Rictus on this webpage does not carry a Maul logo, also the name Rictus is missing and the D.R.P. patent number 384478 is also not present. However, the name BURNUS is stamped and colored on the scale front. Burnus appears to be an enzyme detergent. It was patented in 1914 by Dr. Otto Röhm of the firm Röhm und Haas from Darmstadt in Germany. The brand Burnus still exists. | back of the scale |
There are more Rictus scales on which advertising is made. I know:
- DE FAAM BREDA (stamped in) with at the back: FIJN FAAM FANTASTISCH (stamped in);
- RADIO SABA RADIO a blue scale with a gold-colored ornate sticker;
- ROBERT KLOESER IMPORT EXPORT AACHEN (stamped in) with at the back: FAAM DIE ROLLE FÜR ANSPRUCHSVOLLE (stamped in);
- EMIL BOHLIN - GEFLE (punched to the outside);
- Krups-Rictus (punched to the outside) and below this also D.R.P. 384478, this was on a brass egg scale version;
- 1881 A.S. 1931 on a separately arranged elliptical plate, it is a scale made on the occasion of a 50 year jubilee.
Presumably, there are more versions with advertising.
