D.R.G.M.

The addition D.R.G.M. stands on this letter scale, just below the M-logo of Philipp Jakob Maul. This is the abbreviation of Deutsches Reich Gebrauchs Muster. This was a model registration, quicker granted and cheaper than a patent registration. I still don't know whether or not a D.R.G.M. really was granted. The same letter scale also exists without the D.R.G.M. addition, just the M-logo on the brass strip. The design Reflex also has this D.R.G.M. added to the M-logo, at the same position in the left brass strip. The scale is positioned concav to facilitate scale reading. The concav mark and text is put on the scale. The scale has a pattern of in length increasing division stripes. This pattern is repeated each 50 grams. This growing stripe is at every 10 grams.

besides the value in figures is given, mostly only the decade-value. For instance 310, 20, 30, 40, 350, 360, 70, 80, and so forth. This makes the scale very obtrusive. The range of this letter scale is 500 grams. Specimens of 250 grams exist also. The firm base of the frame has a characteristic cubic-shaped broadening. This type of frame is applied in several other designs of Ph.J. Maul. Look at for example the REFLEX and the lightweight Fertig. The concav shaped scale with the in length increasing stripes is applied in more recent designs as well. Gladly a reduction on the number and simplification of figures was made on these mre recent scales. Below some more photos of this letter scale.
