This red chicken is an egg scale. The maker of this somewhat primitive reproduction is unknown to me. The original is this white chicken, see here. There is also a blue chicken, the Jiffy III from Kuhl Corporation, see bottom of page and here below. The eye of the red chicken is a white round dot, and not a hole like with the white and with the blue chicken. The red base plate is rectangular, the white and blue ones are oval. The base plate is 20.4 x 7.8 cm and the highest point of this chicken is 20.0 cm. The scale with American and European egg classes has largely been kept the same, only a color strip has been added on the left. The original design of this egg scale is in the name of Paul K. Boutiette of Manchaug in Massachusetts, U.S.A. The design is protected with an American Design Patent US D569,751S on May 27, 2008, see here for some more information.
