This Salter no. 11 letter scale was intended for use in Germany. BRIEF-WAAGE is German for letter scale. On the dial are the following German postal rates:
        Briefe bis 15G. 10 PF
        Briefe über 15g bis 250G. 20 PF
        Waarenproben bis 250G. 10 PF
Below the pointer is the rate for printed matter:
        Drucksachen bis 50 G. 3 PF
        Drucksachen über 50 - 250 G. 10 PF
        Drucksachen über 250 - 500 G. 20 PF
        Drucksachen über 500 - 1000 G. 30 PF
and the manufacturer's name and model number:

Based on old German postal tariff information, this scale can be dated to January 1, 1875 - June 1, 1900. At the bottom of the dial is not the distinctive logo of Salter. The scale housing is made of cast iron. On the dial there is a line for each 10 grams and a separate line for 15 grams. One from Kneist and one brass dial version of a Salter No. 11, on which the Salter logo is missing also.
