WMF No.325 letter scale with stamp box | Again a letter scale from the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik from Gieslingen / Steige in Germany. This letter scale is marked on the bottom and on the back of the stamp box. At the bottom is the number 325. In a catalog it can be found as Briefwage model number 325. On the back is the letter B, and OX, then a WMF logo and then I / O. The letter B means the scale foot is made of Britannia metal, an alloy of tin (92%) with antimony (6%) and copper (2%). OX means that the silver surface has been artificially darkened. The WMF logo in the square with the horizontal bars with a diamond with an ostrich and the letters WMF G, dates from the period 1903-1910. The designation I / O means that 1 gram of silver has been applied per square decimeter. Another source says that the normal amount of silver is applied per unit area, which is rather vague. The letters I / O are also on the edge of the letter tray. Most of the information about WMF I found on the Pewterbank and on the next ASCAS page. Search for WMF on the first mentioned site. | back of the letter scale |
