![]() Excelsior letter scale with two ranges | This letter scale with the model name Excelsior was made by Philipp Jakob Maul from Hamburg in Germany. Excelsior scales have been shown on this website before, see a blue one here, a bigger blue one here and a red one here. Why then yet another page about an Excelsior? It turns out there is an Excelsior with two weighing ranges! The low weighing range of 50 grams is divided with a stripe of measure per gram. The high weighing range of zero to 250 grams has up to 200 grams of stripes of measure per two grams, and above that up to 250 grams per five grams. A flippable counterweight is used to switch weighing ranges. This specimen is red, more often Excelsiors are blue. Green Excelsiors are offered the least. | ![]() back of the letter scale |
